Why would I have a fairly normal period with NO CRAMPS?!?

I am 36 yrs old and could possibly be going through menopause (still don't believe it). I have had a period, skipped 2 months, had a period, skipped 1 month, and then my most recent period was normal other than the fact that I didn't have ANY CRAMPS whatsoever. It's kind of got me freaked out. I've always had cramps-so-bad-I-can't-walk for at least 8-24 hours during my period. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not on any medication what so ever.
