How will the US recover if it cant rely on wars, consumer shopping or manufacturing?

there is going to be a dying middle cl and with that comes civil unrest which we could go one of two ways ---the Obama way of propping up the welfare state until we really do implode or a free market way where the service sector holds just enough jobs for the little guy or the uneducated and poor to get a hold of the middle cl and move up with education.
